The Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Niger State, Hon. Ladidi Kuta, has expressed her commitment to the welfare of her staff, with a particular focus on reducing the financial burden of healthcare.
The Commissioner made this known during a working visit to the Executive Secretary of the Niger State Contributory Health Agency-NiCare, where discussions centered on the possible enrolment of officials of the Niger State Traffic Management Agency (NITMA) into the State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme.
Hon. Kuta noted that her staff, particularly traffic management officers, are daily exposed to occupational hazards in the course of serving the public, hence the need to ensure that their health and well-being are safeguarded. She stressed that enrolling them into NiCare would provide a sustainable and affordable health financing option that will ease out-of-pocket spending on medical bills.
In response, the Executive Secretary of NiCare, Sulayman Abu-Bakr, welcomed the Commissioner’s initiative, assuring that the Agency is committed to expanding coverage to all categories of workers in the state, especially those whose jobs expose them to health risks.
He added that NiCare remains open to strategic partnerships that will ensure universal health coverage and equitable access to quality healthcare services for all residents of Niger State.
After the meeting, the Commissioner and the NiCare team, led by the Executive Secretary, proceeded to the NITMA office where staff were sensitized on the benefits of enrolling into the State Contributory Health Scheme.
The move by the Commissioner underscores the government’s determination to prioritize staff welfare and aligns with the State’s broader agenda of improving access to healthcare through contributory health insurance.
